In a Pit, With a Lion, in the Snow

"Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it." - 2 Samuel 23:20

You know that feeling?

When the tables turn.

When you look down and see the deck is stacked in your favor.

When you realize that you hold the upper hand.

When you are assured of victory.

I know this feeling. I've felt it distinct times in my life: job interviews, tests, public speaking, crossfit workouts. The rise in my chest of confidence. The calm in my mind after my head has completely turned the situation on every angle and determined: yes.

It feels sort of like this:

Shout out to Ariana Grande for a hair flip that rivals Beyoncé and you know ME and BEY. #wetight

Yesterday, we spoke of chasing lions. You know, the lions in our life that are constantly cornering us, making us fearful, backing us into a corner.

I did some research on lions not to long ago because of the reference to them in scripture. Here's what I found intriguing:

Lions stalk their prey. Slowly, intentionally. They mark their target and then infiltrate slowly but directly.

Lions wait until their prey is vulnerable and alone. Without any assistance from more savvy or alert creatures, their prey becomes a much easier target.

Lions use the cloak of darkness and their surroundings to hide their movement and slowly advance on their prey.

Sound familiar?

At some point, we have to stop cowering in fear. Maybe this is what fires me up some much about the content and timidity of ministry these days. It's no coincidence that our ladies group is starting "Girls with Swords" because we have, at our disposal, the most effective lion killer in existence.

When we are empowered by the Word of God, we are unstoppable.

We no longer have to cower - or even defend. We can chase down the lions in our lives and put an end to their terror.

Even into a pit.

Even on a snowy day.

It is time, ladies, for us to rise up. To take this powerful weapon that was given to us as children of the mighty king, and to wield it against the lions in our lives and the lives of others.
