I Can't = the LIE

IV read this verse to me this morning from his blue adventure Bible:

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." - John 13: 34-35

(He also read me the last book of Revelations, not sure if I should be prepping for the return today or WHAT, but...thanks? It's a lot for 6:45 a.m.)

And it's graduation time and kiddos are not kiddos as of today. They're walking stages and getting ready to jettison into the world as real, live adults with their dreams and dorm bedding in tow. Watch. Out. World. And all Starbucks and 24 hour Taco Cabanas.

I came across this video from our digital technology community students, featuring a message from one of our local graduating high school seniors.

Get ready. Because this will rock your world.

Hunter shared his message to others about overcoming adversity and never believing the haunting echoes of the world. The echoes that say "you can't" because you're too poor, too weak, too homeless, too abandoned, too ___________ (insert the lies, lies, lies).

Do we remember who inherits the kingdom? You know that's right.

There is no "can't" in Christ.

Hunter is a perfect example of how Christ does not allow "can't" to win.

We can go to college even though homelessness was three days away. We can look the path of destruction in the eye and say "not today." We can be packing for UTSA, pursuing a career in real estate law, when your own parents abandoned you and left you with no one.

This student succeeded because he believed - and was surrounded by people who believed - that "can't" was not an option. He was shown love and grace by those teachers, counselors, friends, other parents. And his path is now far, far from destruction. And he is determined to make things better for those who faced his same struggles.

Love one another. This is the identifier of Christ in us. Love. There is only love. It is what turns our "can't" into "can" and it can change not just your path, but the path of thousands of others.

Please join me in praying for these precious, beloved seniors - can you recall? Walking that stage? They are the torch bearers, the suitcases full of potential and light and love! Soar my friends!
